Introducing Susie

休日はジム通いが日課のSusie。以前はトレーナーになることを目指していたくらいだ。ジムで身体を動かすと頭の中にある色んなことが整理されていくそうだ。バリにいた時にはパーソナルトレーナーについてもらっていた。トレーナーはみんなモチベーションを掻き立てるのが上手い。フィットネスにハマっている人だけでなく誰でもパーソナルトレーナーになれると言う。必要なことは、人のモチベーションを出させたいという気持ち、人の身体を肉体的にも精神的にも鍛えて自信を持たせてあげたいという情熱だろう、と話してくれた。

Susieにとって東京では、六本木、新宿、渋谷がお気に入りの場所だ。六本木は、昼と夜とで全く違う顔を持つ。夜の六本木の特にドンキホーテ周辺は苦手で、「観光客がナイトライフを楽しむ場所」というイメージが強いそう。昼間の六本木はお気に入りで、Susieが生まれ育ったドバイに似た雰囲気があるそうだ。新宿は、住んでいたため色んな思い出がある。眠らない街新宿は多様性に富んでいて、歌舞伎町では夜の仕事をしている人たちなど様々な光景をみることができる。特に驚いたのは、とある男性がわざと車にひかれて慰謝料を請求しようとしていたところを目撃したことだそう。渋谷は、何かとよく行く場所で、ただ人間観察しているだけでも面白い。東京には至るところにカフェがあるが、渋谷のカフェで過ごす時間がお気に入りだそうだ。

If I’m not at work, I love going to the gym. I told you I want to be a trainer? What is it about the gym? I just feel good about everything when I’m working out. I think it helps me organize thoughts in my brain. It’s just science right? The chemicals released in your body does stuff when you’re working out that makes you feel good. I had a personal trainer when I was in Bali. They are just so good at motivating people. Not everyone who is in to fitness can become a personal trainer. You need to have that motivation to motivate people. You have to have that desire to help that person become physically–and especially mentally–confident about themselves.

Where do I like to hang out in Tokyo? I do like three main areas: Shinjuku, Shibuya and Roppongi. Roppongi at night is so different from Roppongi in the day time. I’m not a big fan of Roppongi at nighttime, at least not the areas around Donkihote. I think tourists go there because they think they can go super-crazy and do stupid stuff and it will be okay– “Because it’s Roppongi.” In the day time, it’s not so sketchy. . . and it reminds me more of Dubai, where I grew up. As for Shinjuku, I used to live there. It’s not my favorite place, but I have a lot of memories there. It’s lively and diverse, and you always see a lot of weird stuff going on especially around the Kabukicho area. I remember this one time seeing a wannabe “tough guy” type. He pretended that he’d been hit by a car, and he just sat in front of the car and waited for the police to come, so that he could claim money from the driver. He was just sitting there even though nothing had happened. So you will always see something in Shinjuku. And Shibuya: I just like to hangout there, people-watching. There are a lot of cafes, too; actually that’s everywhere in Tokyo.
