Introducing Mariya

Mariyaが東京に初めて移った時、色んな人との出会いが衝撃的だった。フリーランスや会社員に限らず、仕事に対してアグレッシブな印象をうけたそう。Mariyaにとってはみんな社交的にみえて東京の空気感に慣れることには苦労したようだ。とはいえ1ヶ月も経つと気の合う素敵な人たちと出会うことができた。「何かに困ったら助けてあげるからすぐに言ってね」と言ってくれる仲間もいて実際助けられたそうだ。なので東京に助けられた、とMariyaは言う。素敵な人たちとの出会いはラッキーだったと言う。もし東京に来ていなかったら、今のアートの仕事はできておらず適当な仕事に就いていただろうと話す。Mariyaにとって東京への移住はライフチェンジャーだったようだ。

When I first moved to Tokyo, I met so many people and it was overwhelming. I guess a lot of people here are aggressive in terms of trying to get work, and it was not just freelance creative people; it was also people who work for companies. Everybody is outgoing. But I wasn’t like that, so I wondered, “Is this for me?” But within a month of moving here, I met some really nice people. One of them said, “If you ever have struggles, or questions, just let me know. I can help you.” And he really did. So Tokyo has helped me a lot. I am super lucky to meet all these people. If I was not here, I would be doing a random job not related to art. So moving here was an important thing that I did.
