実際、当たり前なのですが、大都市の生活に一旦なれてしまうと、特に3~5年くらい住んでしまうとなかなかそこから抜け出すのはとても難しいです。東京に慣れている人は、特にコンビニエンスストアやタクシーなどについてなのですが、田舎に行くと5ブロック以内にコンビニがあるような当たり前が失われていることがわかります。どうすればそれに慣れることができますか？あなたがおっしゃっていたテクノロジー[そしてコロナ禍におけるソーシャルディスタンス]について言えば、私は、都市の内外に、直感的な人間の相互作用に対する欲望が実際に存在することを見つけました。例えば火を炊くことであったり、コンサートで汗をかくことであったり。そう言ったあらゆる「ノーマルな」人間の相互作用です。特に都会での生活は、そのような人間の相互作用とかけ離れています。
It’s actually, unsurprisingly, really hard to extricate yourself from city life, especially if you’ve acclimatized yourself to it for three, four or five years. People who’ve become accustomed to Tokyo especially–with all the convenience stores and taxis and stuff–if they go to rural areas, you’ll find that there are no convenience stores within five blocks of you. How can you get used to that [[. . .]]? But, going back to what you were saying–[[about tech and with these Covid-19 times of social distancing]]–I’ve found that . . . within the city and outside of the city . . . there really is almost a lust for just visceral human interaction: be that making a fire, being in a sweaty concert, or whatever type of “normal” human interaction. Especially in the city, we feel very separated from that.
