Introducing Yukiko

私は、大学卒業後すぐに就職しました。しかし、2年半かかってようやく、自分には向いていなことに気づきました。だから、今新しいスタートを切っていると言えます。私は「スローライフ」にとても興味があります。おそらく田舎で何かを始めるのがいいかもしれません。例えば、農業や「WOOFING」[農作業を手伝い、農家は対価として食事と宿泊場所を提供するサービス]などです。WOOFINGは「WorkAway」に似ており、協力し合いながら自給自足の生活に基づいて少人数で集住しているコミュニティを転々と訪れていくことができます。多くの人が代替的な生活、あるいは金銭的な関係に基づかない仕事のやり取りに興味を持っていますが、実際に村や小さなコミュニティで働く体験をすることはできるのです。日本ではそれほど盛んではありませんが、九州にはいくつかそのような体験ができるコミュニティがあります。もちろん、私はお金の存在は必要だと思いますが、他にも手段はたくさんあることもまた事実です。たとえば、物を買うだけでなく、物を作る、ことによって。

I started work right after college. But it took me two and a half years to realize that this wasn’t for me. So this is a new start. I’m very interested in the “slow life” . . . may be doing something in the countryside: perhaps farming or “WOOFING” [[Willing Workers on Organic Farms]]. WOOFING is similar to “Work-away,” where you can visit remote locations with small gatherings of people working together in a self-sufficient way. A lot of people are interested in an alternative life–or some kind of work-exchange where you don’t get paid, but you can experience the culture of a village or community where you work. It’s not that big in Japan, but there are some places in Kyushu that do it. Of course, I think that money is necessary, but there are many other ways to be sufficient . . . not just by buying things, but by creating things.
